Matthias Jung, born in 1968, is sociologist and lecturer at the institute for sociology at the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main. He studied linguistics, philosophy, sociology and prehistoric and protohistoric archaeology in Frankfurt and Mayence. Matthias Jung wrote his doctoral thesis on “The Logic of Archaeological Interpretation”, his habilitation treatise dealt with the Motivations of Amateur Archaeologists. Further research interests are archaeology and narrativity, social structures of traditional societies and hermeneutics of material culture. During his fellowship he focuses on the theoretical concepts of “object biography” and “biographical objects”, their explanatory value and applicability to archaeological objects.
