Within this Digital Humanities project, different digital methods for text- and image-based research and publication are tested or further developed, respectively.


The project encompasses five sub-projects:

  1. Conversion of the datasets of the database Inscriptiones Christianae Graecae (www.epigraph.topoi.org) into TEI/EpiDoc XML (D. Werning, L. Uhlig, C. Breytenbach).
  2. Development of a Jupyter Notebook for data from the repository database Inscriptiones Christianae Graecae  (D. Werning, M. Vogl, G. Graßhoff).
  3. Development of best practices for the encoding of complex writing systems, like Egyptian Hieroglyphs and Cuneiform, in Unicode and TEI XML (D. Werning).
  4. Further development of the Egyptian text/image-database Corpus alt-aegyptischer Multimodaler Communication  (CaeMmCom, Corpus of Ancient Egyptian Multimodal Communication) (S. Kutscher, D. Werning, N. vom Hagen).
  5. Development of an sign function database of Egyptian Hieroglyphs (D. Werning, N. vom Hagen, F. Kammerzell).
