Prof. Dr. Ortwin Dally

Ortwin Dally is Director of the German Archeological Institute (DAI), Department Rome. From 2004 to 2013 he was General Secretary of the (DAI) and honorary professor of Archeology at the Freie Universität Berlin. His research interests include problems of culture contact in Lower Italy and the Black Sea area, concepts of the past in Antiquity and its visualization, the “maintenance” and “restoration” of monuments in Antiquity and Late Antiquity, history of religion and ancient architecture. Within Topoi, Ortwin Dally works on settled people and nomads, on the relation between space and ritual acts and the construction of ritual and sacred landscapes.
