Prof. Dr. Claudia Näser

Claudia Näser is an Egyptologist and Africanist archaeologist interested in public archaeology, critical heritage studies, the archaeology of Nubia from prehistory to the Islamic period, ancient Egyptian burial practices and the archae­ology of nomadism. Her research focuses on the political dimension of archaeological practice, the production, appropriation and consumption of archaeological heritage places in contemporary contexts and the methodologies of integrated archaeological-anthopological studies. She directs two field projects in Sudan. Her research in Topoi includes excavations at the World Heritage site of Musawwarat es-Sufra in Sudan and investi­ga­tions into the role of archaeological heritage and archaeological practice in Islam, with case studies in Egypt and the Sudan.
