Dr. Hans Gerhard Kopp

Hans Kopp was doctoral fellow within research group (B-1) Routes – Water – Knowledge, where he worked on the often stressed concept “command of the sea”, examining its evolution from Thucydides over Polybius until the beginning of the principate. He studied Ancient History at the Freie Universität Berlin. After completing his thesis with the title “Thukydides und die Beherrschung des Meeres. Ein historiographisches Motiv und seine Bedeutung im 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr.” In 2015 he has been research assistant at Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut, Freien Universität Berlin and coordinator of the project “Bewegung als Prinzip – Dynamik und Transformation als politische Impulse im 5. Jh. v. Chr. (Einstein Stiftung)”.

Hans Kopp has also participated in the PhD program “Ancient Languages and Texts” (ALT) at Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS).
