Mathias Knaut studied prehistory and early history in Berlin and Marburg. Since 1993 he has worked at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences for Engineering and Economy, first as Professor of Restoration of Cultural Assets, and since 2010 as Vice President of Research. His research interests include restoration and conservation in the fields of archaeology and monument preservation, preventative conservation and risk management in the field of cultural asset preservation. In Topoi, he is active in research group (C-3) Fragments, Ruins, and Space.
