Nalini Kirk studied Sinology, Medical History, and Indology at Ludwig-Maximilans-University in Munich, with a special focus on Chinese History and History of Chinese Medicine. She is currently a doctoral fellow at Topoi within the research group (B-5) Personal authorization of knowledge. Nalini Kirk’s research project concentrates on competition between different groups of medical experts in ancient China, related processes of legitimation and professionalization, and the role these processes played in medical thought and practice. Her interests include epistemology in science and medicine as well as intercultural comparative studies in the history of science.

Nalini Kirk has also participated in the PhD program “History of Ancient Science” (HistAS) at the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS).
