Frans Wiggermann is Professor (Emeritus) of Assyrology at the University of Amsterdam. He is a worldwide expert for Semitic languages, Iconography and Demonology of the ancient Near East.
He studied Semitic languages at the University of Amsterdam. In 1986 he finished his doctoral thesis on “Babylonian Prophylactic Figures: The Ritual Texts” at the University of Amsterdam. Frans Wiggermann is member of the NIAS group (“Magic and Religion in the Ancient Near East”) and regularly participates in archaeological excavations at the site of Tell Sabi Abyad, Syria.
