Axel Schäfer
Axel Schäfer, born in 1975, studied Ancient American Studies and Comparative Religious Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, Universidad de Huamanga/Peru and Universidad de Sevilla/Spain. In 2006, he received his Magister Artium for his work “Santiago Yllapa. An Apostle’s Path in the Andes”. From an historic perspective, it investigates the adoption of St. James as patron saint of Spain, his royal house and in particular of the reconquista of the Iberian peninsula. Secondly, it follows the translation and implementation of the apostle in the Spanish colonies, especially Peru. Currently, Axel Schäfer is writing his doctoral thesis as a member of Research Group C-III “Acts”. The thesis examines the spatial aspects of the rituals of the festivities of St. James in Cotabambas, a province in the Southern Peruvian Andes and is based on ethnographic fieldwork. |
