Dr. Vincent Razanajao

Holding a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Montpellier III.

In January 2006 he defended a dissertation on the ancient town of Imet, nowadays Tell el-Farʿoun (Lower Egypt), in which Vincent Razanajao proceeded to write a “regional monograph” by taking into account both archaeological and textual material.
Part of the documentation of this style of work, the “Nile-Gods” processions texts inscribed on of the soubassements of most of the Egyptian temples during the Graeco-Roman Period are one of his current research projects. These processions and the accompanying texts invoke Egypt in all its forms for the benefit of the local deities and give important material pertaining to the Egyptian toponymy and religion during Late Period. The intent of this project is to gather this corpus of hieroglyphic texts and to publish the material online, in order to offer a useful tool for studies of cultic topography and the history of religion in Ancient Egypt.

Pertaining to both Egyptology and Digital Humanities, his personal research leads Razanajao to join in 2011 two other projects. The first one is the Karnak Cachette Database Project (http://www.ifao.egnet.net/bases/cachette/), where I have been asked to develop a tool intended to digitize the Egyptian texts inscribed on the Cachette’s statues and to prepare the electronic corpus.
The second project that also concerns me since 2011 is the iMouseion Project (http://transfers.ens.fr/index.php/fr/projet/3-informations/161) and deals more precisely with the Derveni Papyrus. This papyrus – a key document for the knowledge of Orphism – is studied through a multi-scholar approach involving scholars from many disciplines.
