Daniel Raisbeck hails from the Columbian capital Bogotá. Since begining his studies in classical philology and ancient history in New Orleans and at the Freie Universität, he has focused on the military strategy of the Roman empire. The military camps founded by the Roman legions – today the sites of European cities such as Cologne, Vienna and York –also figure as a focal point in his dissertation on the Grand Strategy of Emperor Hadrian. Since August 2009, he has researched this topic in Area B-II-1 under the guidance of Prof. Ernst Baltrusch.
