Cristina Murer is a Post-doctoral Fellow at Topoi. She studied Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Bern and did her PhD thesis, a study of female honorific statuary in Italy and the Latin speaking Provinces, at the University of Amsterdam. Since October 2013, she has been a Research and Teaching Assistant at the Freie Universität Berlin. She has been awarded a Post-Doctoral Dahlem International Network Position at the Freie Universität Berlin and at the University of Oxford from October 2015 until October 2017 for her reserach project: „Ex sordentibus locis.“ Plundering Tombs and the Reuse of Grave Material in Late Antique and Early Medieval Cityscapes in Italy. This research focuses on the plundering of abandoned imperial tombs from the late 3rd century BC to reusing grave material for the decoration of prestigious late antique private and public buildings. In her research project she examines all the archaeological records and literary sources from late antique and early medieval cityscapes that describe these hitherto unknown phenomena.
