Uta Kornmeier studied art history and German literature at the universities of Kiel, Cologne, and London. After obtaining her MA in Museum Studies at the Courtauld Institute of Art (University of London, 1995) she wrote her doctoral dissertation “Taken from Life. Madame Tussaud und die Geschichte des Wachsfigurenkabinetts vom 17. bis frühen 20. Jahrhundert“ at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2003). Since then she has been working in museums and research institutions in Germany and the UK. From 2011 to 2015 she coordinated the research project SchädelBasisWissen. Kulturelle Implikationen der plastischen Chirurgie des Schädels at the Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung in Berlin. In 2015 she joined Topoi as the research curator for the exhibition “Mapping Body and Soul” (research project D-2-5). Apart from her academic research she curated several exhibitions – two of them at the Berlin Museum of Medical History. In 2016 she became researcher and head of the DFG funded research project “Intime Bilder. Die Geschichte kunsthistorischer Radiologie” based at the Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung Berlin.
