Askold Ivantchik is Professor of Ancient History at Moscow State University in Russia, Scientific Director of the Centre for Comparative Studies of Ancient Civilizations at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, and President of the Russian Association of Classical Studies. He is also a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute (2002) and of the Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente (2004).

His research focuses on Greek and Latin epigraphy (especially of the Black Sea region), Ancient history and archaeology of the Eurasian steppes and of the Black Sea region, Greek colonization, Relations between Greeks and Iranian world, Greek ethnographic descriptions, and Herodotus.
