Hermann Hunger had been Professor of Assyriology at the University of Vienna, until his retirement in 2007. He is an expert on Babylonian astronomy and celestial omens. He is member of the American Philosophical Society and the Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften. In 2010 he became a honorary member of the American Oriental Society. He is co-editor of the “Archiv für Orientforschung”. Hermann Hungers research focuses on cuneiform sources from Mesopotamia from the 1st millennium BC, especially astronomical texts.
