Prof. Dr. Horst Bredekamp

Horst Bredekamp has been Professor for Art History at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since 1993 and Permanent Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin since 2003. His research focuses on iconoclasm, Romanesque sculpture, Renaissance art and Mannerism as well as political iconography, art and technology and new media. In 2000 he founded the research project “Das Technische Bild” in the Hermann von Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik (HZK) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This project aims to investigate scientific-technical and medical visualizations with critical methods to elaborate a theory on pictorial perception. Since 2008 he is research leader of the DFG-Kolleg research group “Bildakt und Verkörperung” at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In 2012 he was appointed spokesperson of the Excellence Cluster “Bild Wissen Gestaltung. Ein interdisziplinäres Labor“.
