Franz Alto Bauer is a Professor of Late Antiquity and Byzantine Art at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. In 2009/10, he was a Topoi Guest Professor at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His expertise enriches the research of Group C-IV “City Spaces”. Franz Alto Bauer’s research has always devoted particular attention to the  observer’s perception of urban surroundings. Another research emphasis is the architectural, decorative and liturgical mise-en-scène of the saint in the early Middle Ages in the West.
