Vera Egbers’ thesis deals with the formation and transformation of identities in ancient Assyria and Urartu by using the theoretical framework of the so called Thirdspace.
This project intends to offer a critical overview of the studies published so far and chronological results on dealing with marble extraction, export, distribution and the influence of these industrial circumstances on the city and their environment.

The Minoan and Mycenaean socio-political systems share many trends due to the interactions between their respective societies, but the archaeological record also testifies marked differences. This research project proposes to investigate the processes at play in the development of these distinct socio-political systems by focusing on the management of architectural production and by quantifying the impact of monumental architecture on these societies.

The Reconstructions and interpretation of ancient Mesopotamian architecture on the basis of written documents, images, and bricks are in the focus of this project.
This Ph.D. project examines the usage of public space in Italic cities and focuses on the pragmatic dimension of architecture. By doing that certain structures of pits found within italic fora are being used to analyse architectural consequences for various perceptions like acoustics, climate control or movement behavior.
In four field seasons, carried out jointly with the University of Oxford, this research project investigated the development of two bathing complexes at Pompeii and their role in its urban development. The fieldwork results are contextualized within an overarching focus on the multifaceted phenomenon of cityscaping. This project contributes, beyond Pompeii and bathing culture, to current debates on the urbanization of Italy and the sociocultural, economic and political conditions, influences, and agents of this process.
In the medieval city in Central Europe the public and public cultures were not only shaped by institutionalized competences, but by multimedia signs, signals, and their perception. The main topic of this project is the interference of acoustic spheres – as they are created by noise, music and bells sounds – and the constitution of spatial structure and significance (juridical, social, transcendental) in the middle ages.
This project explores the question of what factors led to an imperial building project being judged as megalomaniacal or not. The research project then focuses particularly on Imperial Rome and builds on the Palatine Hill project (DAI).
This project deals with the Late Bonze Age Royal Tomb of Seddin, which is one of the few elite tombs with a monumental architecture. Within this project the entire composition of the tomb, the reasons for the monumentalisation, the technical realisation and the choice of its location within the whole area are examined.
“Third Space” in the postmodern geography of Edward Soja is an approach built on Henri Lefebvre’s theory of specific “modes of production of spaces”. Lefebvre distinguishes a perceived, a represented and a lived space (espace perçu, espace conçu, espace vécu).
