Jonas Berking is the young research group leader of A3 – Watermanagment (Key Topic).
This research group is dedicated to interdisciplinary research into water supply in the Mediterranean region and the Near East in diverse time periods ranging from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.
His interests are focused in strategies of water supply systems, their efficiency and reliability.
Claudia Näser is an Egyptologist and Africanist archaeologist. Her research and publications have focused on funerary archaeology in Egypt and Nubia, the archaeology of Nubia from prehistory to the Islamic period, the history and archaeology of Egypt’s expansion into Nubia, the archaeology of nomadism, archaeological theory and the political dimension of archaeological practice in contemporary social contexts. Claudia Näser directs two field projects in Sudan. Her research in Topoi includes excavations at the World Heritage site of Musawwarat es-Sufra in Sudan and investigations into the role of archaeological heritage and archaeological practice in the Islamic world, with case studies in Egypt and the Sudan.
