Sacred Places - Sacred Landscapes

Research Group C-III focuses on acts. Action can be occasioned by the spaces that are conceived on the level of text and image or be integrated into this and contribute to the formation of new spaces or the modification of old ones. The group seeks to examine the relation between space and ritual acts and the construction of ritual and sacred landscapes. In order to modify the theory of rituals, the group is to identify sacred places, to reconstruct processions to sanctuaries, to examine the social and economical organization of processions, and finally to reconstruct larger sacred landscapes.
